Players take on the role of Luna Youngman, a Criminal Investigations Analyst for a District Attorney’s office and the leader of a local neighborhood watch, tasked with identifying a killer hiding among anonymously submitted reports. Each case hands over a mixed bag of evidence — cell phone images, police reports, purchase records, text conversations, social media accounts, and search history — and the job is to comb through it and judge whether the person behind it is actually a threat.

Nothing in Scrutinized is handed over pre-sorted. Evidence across different sources has to be cross-referenced against itself, since a single piece of evidence rarely tells the whole story on its own — a suspicious purchase means something different once it’s checked against that same person’s search history or a contradicting timestamp elsewhere in the file.

New players tend to fixate on the most obviously alarming piece of evidence in a report and rush to a verdict, missing a quieter detail elsewhere in the same file that actually changes the read on the case.
