Color Slider Module

Color Slider is the second module the campaign teaches, and the first one that asks for several inputs in a row. Level 2 is a Color Slider on its own with a 2:30 timer and only one mistake allowed, so a single wrong move ends the run. The rule is simple: every slider goes either up or down. The hard part is moving four sliders in the right order without anyone losing track of which one is next.

Module Color Slider
Type Standard defusal module
Difficulty Easy
First appears Level 2
Named in levels 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6; can also be rolled in Random Easy slots
What’s on the panel A row of colored sliders
What the manual gives An up or down direction for each color
Who acts Blind Monkey moves the sliders

How the Module Works

The panel shows a set of colored sliders, and walkthroughs of Level 2 describe four of them that all have to be set correctly in one sequence. For each color, the manual shows an arrow pointing up or down. The team’s job is to match every slider on the bomb to its arrow and move it there, one slider at a time.

As always, the information is split three ways:

  • Deaf Monkey sees the sliders and their colors and calls them out in order.
  • Mute Monkey checks each color against the manual and signals up or down.
  • Blind Monkey moves the slider that was named, in the direction that was confirmed.

Community guides stress one detail more than any other: the up or down decision is tied to the slider’s physical position in the row, so the order you read the colors in matters as much as the colors themselves.

A wrong move on this module resets your progress on it. Patience beats speed here: one confirmed slider is worth more than two fast guesses.

Step-by-Step Relay

  1. Fix the reading order. Agree before the timer that sliders are counted left to right and from whose point of view. Keep it for the whole session.
  2. Deaf reads the full row once. “Left to right: red, yellow, blue, green.” The Mute Monkey hears the whole set before anything moves.
  3. Deaf names the first slider again. “Slider one, red.”
  4. Mute signals the direction. A thumbs-up or nod for up, a thumbs-down or head shake for down – whatever your group agreed.
  5. Deaf translates for Blind. “First slider from the left. Up.”
  6. Blind repeats and moves. “First slider, up?” – then moves it and says when it’s done.
  7. Move on to the next slider. Repeat the loop until every slider is set, without skipping ahead or jumping back.

Callout Script

  • Deaf “Color Slider. Four sliders. Left to right: red, yellow, blue, green.”
  • Deaf “Slider one, red?”
  • Mute Thumbs up.
  • Deaf “Blind, first slider from the left. Up.”
  • Blind “First slider, up?”
  • Deaf “Yes. Go.”
  • Blind “Done.”
  • Deaf “Slider two, yellow?”

Color Slider vs. the Chaos Slider

From Level 4, the game adds a second kind of slider, and new teams mix them up. They look similar but work in completely different ways:

Feature Color Slider Chaos Slider
Type Defusal module Chaos module
Goal Set each slider up or down once, in sequence Keep pulling a rising slider back down
Needs the manual Yes No
When it’s finished When every slider matches the manual Never – it keeps rising until the bomb is defused
First appears Level 2 Level 4

The Chaos Slider is marked with a warning symbol and starts climbing on its own. If someone calls “slider” during Level 4 or 5, make sure the team knows which one is meant. “Color Slider, slider three” and “Chaos, slider rising” are hard to confuse; plain “slider” isn’t.

Where You’ll Meet It

Color Slider is one of the most frequent modules in the early campaign. It’s also the module that teaches the “one input per confirmation” habit that every later sequence module depends on.

Level Timer Modules Chaos Mistakes
2 2:30 Color Slider None 1
3 2:30 Cable + Color Slider None 3
4 3:00 Color Slider + Direction Slider 3
5 3:00 Color Slider + Calculator Slider 3
6 3:30 Calculator + Cable + Color Slider Pressure 3

From Level 7 onward, Color Slider can also appear in “Random Easy” slots, so even late bombs may bring it back. A team that has made it automatic in Levels 2–6 clears those slots with almost no effort.

Common Mistakes

  • Reporting only the slider that looks wrong. The Mute Monkey needs the whole row to keep positions straight.
  • Using vague words. “This one” or “the other one” means nothing to a player who sees only outlines. Use numbers: “slider three”.
  • Moving before the row is confirmed. If the Blind Monkey starts on slider one while the Deaf Monkey is still reading slider four, the sequence breaks.
  • Skipping ahead. Work through the sliders strictly in order. Jumping to “the easy one” is how a slider gets moved twice or not at all.
  • Confusing it with the Chaos Slider. On Levels 4 and 5 both are on the bomb at once. Name the module every time.
  • Changing direction words. If “up” means toward the top of the panel for the Deaf Monkey, it has to mean the same for the Blind Monkey. Settle it on Level 2.

Practice Checklist

  • The team counts sliders left to right from an agreed point of view.
  • The Deaf Monkey reads the full row before the first move.
  • Up and down each have one fixed signal from the Mute Monkey.
  • Every call to the Blind Monkey includes a slider number and a direction.
  • The Blind Monkey repeats the call and says “done” after each move.
  • Nobody moves to the next slider until the current one is confirmed.
  • On Levels 4–5, “Color Slider” and “Chaos Slider” are always named in full.

If one module keeps beating your group, Custom mode lets you pick which modules appear, set the timer and choose how many mistakes are allowed, so you can drill Color Slider on its own.

FAQ

How many sliders does the module have?

Walkthroughs of Level 2 describe a set of four color sliders that have to be moved correctly in one sequence.

What happens if we move a slider the wrong way?

A wrong move resets your progress on the module and counts as a mistake. On Level 2 only one mistake is allowed, so it ends the run.

How does the Mute Monkey show up or down?

The game doesn’t prescribe a signal. Most groups use a thumbs-up or nod for up and a thumbs-down or head shake for down. Agree on it before the timer starts.

Is the Color Slider the same as the Chaos Slider?

No. The Color Slider is a defusal module solved with the manual. The Chaos Slider rises on its own from Level 4 and has to be pulled down again and again until the bomb is defused.
