Endless and Custom Modes
The campaign has 30 handcrafted bombs, but it isn’t the whole game. Two more modes sit next to it. Endless throws procedurally generated waves at your team until you can’t keep up. Custom lets you build exactly the bomb you want: the difficulty, the timer, the modules, the hazards and how many mistakes are forgiven. One is a test, the other a training ground, and used together they’re the fastest way to get better.
The Three Modes Compared
| Mode | What it is | Best for |
| Campaign | 30 handcrafted levels; defusing a bomb unlocks the next; difficulty rises steadily | Learning every module in order |
| Endless | Procedurally generated, wave-based bombs that keep getting harder | Testing how far your team’s habits hold up |
| Custom | A bomb you configure yourself | Drilling one weak module, role or hazard |
A sensible path, suggested by community guides: learn the loop in the campaign, use Custom to fix the one thing that keeps breaking, then take your team into Endless.
Endless Mode
Endless builds bombs procedurally and serves them as waves. Each wave is harder than the last, and the run continues until the team fails or quits. There’s no fixed sequence to memorize, so Endless measures your procedures rather than your knowledge of particular levels.
Fan guides describe later waves adding more modules in parallel and more Chaos work, which keeps the Blind Monkey’s hands busy while the puzzles pile up. The modules and hazards are the same ones you know from the campaign.
Endless Milestones
| Achievement | Requirement |
| Endless Junior | Complete 5 waves in Endless Mode |
| Endless Expert | Complete 15 waves in Endless Mode |
| Endless Master | Complete 30 waves in Endless Mode |
Early Steam statistics showed these as some of the rarest achievements in the game, which says a lot about how demanding the later waves are.
Tips for Long Endless Runs
- Treat every wrong input as serious. A run can end on any wave; don’t spend mistakes casually because “it’s only wave three”.
- Keep Chaos ownership fixed. Waves get busier, so decide once who calls Chaos.
- Swap roles between runs. Otherwise one player ends up as the permanent Mute Monkey.
- Debrief after a wipe, not during a wave. Note which module ended the run, then drill it in Custom.
- Use a room code for a regular group. A stable team of three is worth more in Endless than any single trick.
Custom Mode
Custom mode lets you adjust the bomb itself. According to the game’s store page, you can change:
| Setting | Why it’s useful |
| Bomb difficulty | Start easy for a new group; choose Hard for a real challenge |
| Explosion timer | Lengthen it while learning a module; shorten it to practice speed |
| Module types | Isolate the one module your team struggles with |
| Environmental hazards | Turn hazards off to learn a module, on to practice recovery |
| Allowed mistakes | Give a new player room to learn without ending the run |
Choosing Hard difficulty in Custom mode also unlocks the Fearless Monkeys achievement.
Custom Drills by Problem
| If your team struggles with… | Build a bomb with… |
| Braille readings | Direction or Switch only, long timer, no hazards |
| Left and right confusion | Direction only, until the perspective is automatic |
| Sound-based modules | Symbol, Soundboard or Morse only |
| Long sequences | Monkey-Says or Piano only |
| Navigation | Maze only, extra allowed mistakes |
| Resuming after interruptions | An Easy module plus hazards switched on |
| A new player in the Mute seat | Cable and Color Slider, extra mistakes, long timer |
Practice Session Plan
- Pick one problem to fix this session.
- Build a Custom bomb around it with a long timer.
- Run it until three clears in a row feel calm.
- Shorten the timer or add hazards.
- Swap roles and run it again.
- Go back to the campaign level or Endless wave that exposed the problem.
