The Demo and Steam Next Fest
The demo appeared on Steam on June 15, 2026, the first day of the June edition of Steam Next Fest, which ran until June 22. It quickly became the breakout of the event. PC Games Hardware, citing SteamDB data, reported that it ranked first among the festival’s 50 most-played demos, with a peak of more than 31,000 concurrent players on the final day. The developers later described it as the most played Next Fest demo.
The numbers kept growing after the festival ended. According to Lefto Studio, more than 675,000 people played the demo during Next Fest itself, and by early August the total had passed 6 million players. At the time of the PC Games Hardware report, the demo had close to 1,000 Steam reviews, 98% of them positive.
How the Release Date Was Set
For most of the summer, the game was expected in August 2026. On August 12 the studio marked 1 million Steam wishlists and announced the final date: September 2, 2026. Press coverage noted that this was about a week later than originally planned, to give the team time for extra polish and features. During the run-up, the developers also organized private playtests through their Discord server.
Demo vs. Full Game
The demo was built to show the core idea: three monkeys, three missing senses and one bomb. Guides from the demo period describe a few difficulty tiers and roughly a couple of hours of content, and the demo’s Steam page lists a level system that unlocks new bombs plus a separate mode for designing your own bomb.
The full release expanded almost every part of that. In their launch announcement, the developers listed these features as part of the released game:
| Area | In the full game |
| Modes | Campaign with 30 handcrafted levels, Endless with procedurally generated waves, and Custom |
| Custom settings | Bomb difficulty, timer, module types, environmental hazards and allowed mistakes |
| Content | New environments, new puzzles and modifiers |
| Monkeys | A full overhaul, with emotes and slapping |
| Look | A new art direction |
| Online play | Server browsing and room codes |
| Input | Controller and Steam Deck support |
| Extras | Achievements (23 in total) and a colorblind mode |
The practical takeaway: if you only know the demo, expect a much bigger game. The released version has 14 puzzle modules, including three Chaos modules, and many fan guides written during the demo period describe module types and difficulty tiers that no longer match it.
Is the Demo Still Available?
Before launch, the studio’s FAQ said the demo might come back after release depending on how the team reassessed it. At the time of writing, the demo’s Steam page still shows an install option, but its availability can change at any time, so check the store page before planning a session around it.
Since Launch
The full game took off as fast as the demo had. The studio announced 500,000 players on September 7 and 1 million players on September 17, roughly two weeks after release. It also reported 300,000 new wishlists in the same period. On Steam, player reviews sit at “Overwhelmingly Positive”.
Updates have followed at a steady pace:
- v1.0.1 hotfix (September 3): fixed crackling voice chat, a bug that stopped some players from hearing or speaking, and a few smaller issues.
- v1.0.2 (September 10): added matchmaking for solo players, a button to hide or reveal the lobby code, level balance changes, a controller interface fix and voice chat changes.
- MAYDAY update (October 9): the first major content update, with a new location full of new hazards and obstacles, plus new monkey customization options.
